Consider the striking Berylline Hummingbird. But it can only be found as a vagrant in Arizona. These are all summer-only in Arizona.)

Mary Jo kindly allowed me to use the photographer’s blind for half-an-hour, which is where I saw the Lucifer’s Hummingbird.

Mexican visitors in Box Canyon

This is not a true box canyon, in sense of our old American western movies, as it serves as a passage thru the Sky Island Mountains over to the Las Cienegas National Conservation Area, as well as Patagonia Lake, and the Paton Hummingbird Center.

The tiny desert spitfire known as Costa’s Hummingbird. I needed it.

The Traveling Birder

” Southern Arizona , including visits to Ramsey Canyon Preserve and Patagonia-Sonoita Creek Preserve. Lifers included Painted Redstart, Sulphur-bellied Flycatcher, Arizona Woodpecker, and Rivoli’s, Violet-crowned, Lucifer, and Broad-billed hummingbird. It truly is the “Warbler Capital of the World.”

Apparently, nefarious forces are conspiring to bar birders from Arizona’s Ash Canyon. The poor proprietor of the Ash Canyon Bed and Breakfast , the single best place to see Lucifer Hummingbirds in the U.S., I haven’t seen these hummingbirds or Arizona Woodpecker yet, so I need your help.
